Project: Prodigal Son

Our Company is pleased to announce auditions for its upcoming production of John Patrick Shanley’s, Prodigal Son. After a successful run in Elgin in 2023 we are excited to take the show to Chicago with almost the entire original cast. While most of the original cast will be coming back for the transfer, we are looking for an actor to replace Louise, and we are looking for understudies for several roles. Understudies will be guaranteed several performances and all actors including understudies will receive a stipend between $200-500 depending on the role.

Content Warning:

Prodigal Son depicts scenes of sexual assault, underage drinking, and profanity.

“Prodigal Son” is the autobiographical story of author John Patrick Shanley as a 15 year old in the 1960s at a private prep school in New Hampshire. Jim is a rough, troubled, brilliant youth from a blue collar family in the The Bronx who receives a scholarship to the prestigious Thomas More Preparatory School in New Hampshire after being expelled from another high school during his sophomore year. While Jim is wrestling with his identity, two faculty members Alan Hoffman, head of the English Department and Carl Schmitt, the headmaster, are wrestling with what to do with Jim. Is he a brilliant, though troubled youth who with the correct guidance could do great things, or is he a lost cause that could tarnish the reputation of their school?
