Muslim African Immigrant

Project: The Color of Assumption

To challenge bias and reshape perceptions around immigration by revealing how many iconic American success stories—often attributed to white historical figures—mirror the immigrant journeys of today's marginalized communities. The spot invites viewers to confront their assumptions, cultivate empathy, and recognize the shared humanity in the immigrant experience.

This is a self-funded project. The spot will be gifted to the first relevant organization (e.g. ACLU) that commits to a broadcast media buy. They will receive a :30 and :20 TV version, as well as vertical social media deliverables.

Kevin Kamin is an Emmy Award-winning creative who is deeply concerned by the rise of emboldened bigotry in today’s cultural climate. Having faced discrimination throughout his life, he finds it disheartening to witness society sliding backward—where the most vulnerable continue to bear the weight of exclusion and injustice.

This PSA uses the power of contrast and reveal to confront bias around immigration. It begins with people of color sharing deeply personal immigration stories. The audience assumes these are their lived experiences. But in a striking turn, it’s revealed that they’re actually reading the true stories of iconic white Americans, like Albert Einstein or Andrew Carnegie. The goal is to expose the viewer’s own assumptions, challenge ingrained stereotypes, and reframe the immigrant story as a universal American story.
